• The expanding mandrel consists of two parts – a tapered arbor and a flexible sleeve
• Usually seated with an arbor press
• Sizes within a range may be obtained by moving the sleeve along the arbor
• Sizes 1/2″ through 7/8″ have one sleeve, sizes 1″ through 2″ have two sleeves
• Mandrels are hardened and ground
